DESCRIPTION:Dylan Hayes will be leading the legendary Jim Knapp Orchestra o
 n August 16th at Boxley's in North Bend. Jim Knapp was an iconic Seattle co
 mposer\, arranger\, bandleader\, jazz theorist\, and teacher to countless m
 usicians in Seattle. In 1971\, he started one of the first college jazz pro
 grams at Cornish College of the Arts. In 1995\, he founded the Jim Knapp Or
 chestra\, which won the Earshot "Best Acoustic Jazz Group" award the same y
 ear. Their CD Things For Now earned the Earshot "Jazz Record Of The Year" a
 ward in 1999.\n\nThe Jim Knapp Orchestra has collaborated with notable musi
 cians such as Lee Konitz\, Jay Clayton\, Jay Thomas\, Jon Wikan\, and Ingri
 d Jensen\, to name just a few.\n\nBig band composer Maria Schneider capture
 d Jim Knapp’s significance by stating\, “Knapp’s music is among the b
 est of orchestral jazz being written these days." Jim McNeely\, a fellow bi
 g band composer\, said that Jim Knapp “was writing some gorgeous music fo
 r big band\,” both original compositions and arrangements of standards\, 
 and admitted that he “was so intimidated by Knapp that he didn’t write 
 a single note until Knapp graduated and left for Seattle.”\n\n\n\nDue to 
 serious medical issues in his later years\, Jim Knapp passed the baton to D
 ylan Hayes and Jay Thomas to carry on the legacy of the Jim Knapp Orchestra
