Visiting Big Bands - Santa Barbara + Mt Hood w/ Travis Raney Quartet
Thursday: 1/30 7:30 PM
Join us for a special evening with visiting college big bands from Santa Barbara, and Mt Hood. Both bands will play opening sets, and then Travis Raney, Danny Kolke, Michael Glynn and Greg Williamson will take the stage to close out the night.

Under the direction of Jim Mooy, the award-winning Santa Barbara City College Lunch Break Jazz Band continues to be one of the finest jazz ensembles in the state. The SBCC Lunch Break Band is the only Community College band to be selected as a finalist for the Monterey Next Gen Jazz Festival for three consecutive years. They have won numerous awards at the Reno International Jazz Festival and continue to garner awards throughout the nation. The Lunch Break Big Band is one of three big bands at SBCC.

The Mt. Hood Community College Jazz Ensemble has grown to be one of the premiere jazz programs in the Portland area. Under the direction of Dan Davey (www.danieldavey.net), the jazz program has grown to provide students with a comprehensive jazz education, including large jazz ensemble, jazz combos, jazz improvisation courses, group jazz piano courses, and private study with the top musicians in the region. Students in the jazz program frequently perform around the greater Portland area, at venues such as The 1905, Jimmy Mak’s, Al’s Den, Jo Bar, and Spinella’s and have performed at the Portland Jazz Festival, Montavilla Jazz Festival, and the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival.
